E-waste and Reusing

According to a report, 50 million tonnes of e-waste are produced worldwide each year, with just 20% of that being recovered. INDIA creates 2 million metric tonnes of e-waste each year, with only a tiny proportion of it being recycled properly. In terms of addressing the negative impact of e-waste on the environment and public health, the INDIAN government-issued E-waste Treatment Rules in 2016, with the primary goal of ensuring ecologically responsible e-waste administration.

Every other manufacturer, producer, buyer, larger quantities consumer, distribution centers, vendors, e-retailer, redeveloped, dismantler, and fabricator engaged in the making, sale, handover, acquisition, gathering, stockpiling, and processing of e-waste or electrical and electronic equipment dropping under the principle, as well as there, own elements, disposables, portions, and extras, is subject to these rules. In the year 2018, an adjustment to this rule was passed.

Producer Responsibilities Increased

PRO (Producer Responsibility Organization) is a CPCB-approved legal construct that can enable a manufacturer or suppliers with a variety of responsibilities related to good EPR administration. A PRO can exchange its assets with suppliers, and so implicating a PRO in maintaining EPR adherence results in lower costs in exciting activities, as listed below:

Centers of collection exchange

Several producers can use a PRO collection center, leading to more efficient utilization of infrastructures.

Launching a Public Awareness Campaign

The PRO’s public awareness campaign targets a broad readership for all types of e-waste, which then in turn reaches all of the participating importers.

Recycling and Transportation

A PRO can assist in the selection of appropriate transport facilities for ecologically responsible e-waste management and a suitable recycler to ensure proper dumping.
