FMCS CERTIFICATION SCHEME

Introduction

Since 2000, the BIS has run a separate scheme for foreign manufacturers called FMCS (Foreign Manufacturer Certification Scheme). Foreign Manufacturers can apply in BIS to use the Standard Mark (also known as the ISI Mark) on their product to sell/ import in Indian market as per this scheme. The Objective of FMCS scheme is to provide third-party assurance of customer satisfaction, safety, and dependability to the final consumer, and it is widely applicable for the award of licenses for all products except those recognized by MeitY as Electronics and IT Goods. This directive makes it mandatory to register a variety of products, including Electronic Appliances, kitchen utensils, steel products, toys, chemicals, chemical products, and car accessories.

Product Certification For Domestic Manufacturers only

This Scheme is solely available to Indian manufacturers. The goal of this Scheme is to provide customers with third-party verification of product quality, safety, and reliability. The existence of the ISI Mark, also known as the standard mark, ensures that the product meets the criteria. The ISI mark on a product gives it a fresh lease of life in terms of standards, quality control, customer safety, and reliability. Local manufacturers can apply to BIS for certification to use the Standardized Marks on their goods under this scheme (Scheme-I of Schedule-II). There are two type of process: a) Simplified process b) Normal process
